OOTD: Cropped & Casual

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Guys, it is safe to say that I am obsessed with my new camera. I’m still waiting to get a tripod but regardless, I can’t get enough of my new Nikon.

Moving on to other things… the other day was my day off from work and so I thought I’d share my oh so casual outfit that I ran around town in doing some not so glamorous errands. Think bank, drugstore etc. etc.

Kimono: H&M | Romper: Winners | Sunglasses: Hunni’s Urban Boutique | Bracelets: H&M | Hat (not shown): Nordstrom
Total Cost: $70

Friday! Friday! What a week it’s been. School is out and the weather in Vancouver is getting to be less about rain and more about sunshine (slowly but surely).

The other day I had no plans or commitments whatsoever so I decided to enjoy some ‘me’ time at Stanley Park. Day was pure bliss in my eyes. Had the sun shining, music playing, my sketchbook out, my new baby (aka my camera) and some new good reads so really, what more could I ask for?

Rompers are tricky I find. They really do have to be the perfect fit otherwise they can make you (or at least me) look stocky and boxy. Also, how much do you love a pretty kimono? Definitely the ‘it’ thing to have in your closet this summer.

Hope you all have a great weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

Hugs,

Kels

OOTD: EASY [P]LEATHER

Vest: Garage | Top: Billabong | Leggings: Forever21 | Keds: Thrift Store
Total Cost? $95

Hey everyone! Boy, am I happy to say that I will be back at it – writing and posting on the regular – since I’m done this semester! A pat on the back for me! I can’t believe I went a whole 10 days without writing… that is rough.

Lately, I have been all about the leather (or should I say, pleather). I’m hoping to invest in a real leather jacket and pair of pants eventually once I pay for a few other expenses (like traveling!) but until then, the faux leather look will have to do. If you really stick it out, you can find some pieces that look pretty authentic for more than half the price. Like this vest from Garage. While the picture does not do it justice, it’s a good fake in my opinion when it comes to looking the ‘leather’ part.

Simple yet chic, this outfit made for the ultimate ‘casual Friday’.

Enjoy your long weekend!

Word Wednesday: Adam Levine`s Womenswear Collection

ImageBack-to-back posts. Who woulda thought? I’m making sure today is beyond productive so I got up real early just so I could get all the things on my ‘to do list’ done. I am that girl who keeps to do lists, yep.

In some serious Cheap Chic news – Maroon 5 crooner, Adam Levine has released a line of womenswear at Kmart! Yes, ladies. You’re not dreaming. Check out some of my favorite pieces from the upcoming collection.

ImageImageImageThe style of the womenswear line is all about that music festival, Cali summer vibe in my eyes. And I kinda dig it. It’s basically the closest I’ll ever get to Adam Levine himself so I’ll take it.

If you wanna see more photos, check out Fashionista’s post, here. What are your thoughts on the line? Share in the comments!

OOTD: Gone Gatsby

Ugh, if only there were more hours in a day! It makes me sad that this week and the next isn’t leaving me much room for writing so I apologize! Once exams and final papers are all over will be when I’ll get back into my writing routine. I’ve been brainstorming and looking to add some new and exciting things to the blog! I’m counting down the days because I just can’t wait!

So remember how on my last blog post I said to stay tuned for something Great Gatsby? Well, this is it! As you probably already guessed, this isn’t my outfit for today but it was however, my outfit for last Thursday night as I attended a ‘Roaring 20s’ themed formal my university put on. To put it briefly, it was an amazing night filled with lots of friends and lots of smiles. They even had a DIY photobooth!

My outfit consisted of a long, draped black dress, Zara heels, a Forever 21 beaded headband, a black boa and a whole lot of jewelery! The whole outfit cost me just a little over $40. Cheap chic done right, once again!

Looking back on the night, I definitely think I was born in the wrong era. If it was socially acceptable to always be dressed to the nines like I was on Thursday, I totally would. No shame.

Happy Tuesday everyone. Hope to get blogging 24/7 again soon!

Hugs,

Kels

Word Wednesday: My 5 Must-Read Blogs

blogging

Happy hump day! It’s the start of April and that is a breath of fresh air. I have a lot of good and exciting things to look forward to this coming month and am excited to continue making my blog the best it can be.

Since it’s been a while since I’ve done a ‘Word Wednesday’, I thought it was only fitting that I get back on track. If you love to read as much as I do, then I think you’ll appreciate this post. My vent of the day consists of sharing with all of you my 5 must-read blogs!

apair&aspare

everygirl

1. A Pair and a Spare

This blog is by far my number one must-read.  Blogger Geneva Vanderzeil is a serious triple threat. What was once a smaller, blogspot domain blog, Vanderzeil’s blog has transformed to epic proportions. I could rave on and on about this blog but I’ll keep it short. From her ah-mazing ‘DIYs’ to her gorgeous Instagram photos, A Pair and a Spare has it all.

2. The Everygirl

The Everygirl is just that – it is for the everyday girl! While some may see this more as a ‘website’ than a blog, it has a lot of personal details and covers a range of topics.

3. Oh, for the Love of Fashion

I’ve only recently come across this blog since starting The Cheap Chic Monologues but I am so glad I did! Chandler’s fashion is one I can relate to – fun & trendy. With similar taste in style, I love seeing what outfits she puts together!

4. Curated Taste

Curated Taste is essentially one of my favorites not just because it is based within my city of Vancouver but also because of its variety. I absolutely love her ‘Thrift Store Score’ posts – it was sort of the inspiration behind my Friday Finds posts!

5. BEAUTY x LIT

For the makeup lovers out there – be sure to check out BEAUTY x LIT. Another recently found blog, I have become an avid reader of their posts. So many product reviews but so little time!

So, what blogs do you read on the daily? I’d love to add to my list so post in the comment section!

Hugs,

Kels

What’s In Your Bag?

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Happy Monday y’all! Start of yet another busy week but I am looking forward to it for oh so many reasons. Later this week, expect a fabulous post on an event that I will be attending on Thursday. Think Gatsby!

I recently was asked by a girlfriend of mine if I had any eyeliner in my purse because she doesn’t usually carry any with her and it just so happened that day I was carrying my full cosmetic case. This caused me to think of what do us women really carry in our bags? and why? So, I decided to post on exactly this – what’s in a bag?

While my purse essentials change here and there (especially from season to season), there are a few things that I just don’t ever leave without! See below for 10 things you can always find in my handbag.

  1. Wallet (obviously!)
  2. Bobby pins
  3. Lip balm
  4. Perfume rollerball
  5. Pens
  6. Cellphone
  7. Lipstick/Lip gloss
  8. Compact Mirror
  9. Hand Sanitizer
  10. Hairbrush/Comb

So ladies, it’s time to spill – what’s in your bag? Share in the comments!

Vancouver Fashion Week

ImageI’ve finally had the time to write again! Yay! School this past week was a little crazy to say the least so I had to take a brief hiatus. Luckily, it didn’t last long!

Over the past weekend, I had the awesome experience of attending Vancouver Fashion Week for the very first time. Actually, it was my first fashion show, ever so you can imagine my excitement. My girlfriend from school and I went and thanks to our mutual friend who was interning for VFW as she got us day passes for FREE! Yes, for free.

We arrived at the venue and stood in line for the guest list. After figuring that all out, we headed to grab a drink and then find our seats as the first show of the day was starting soon. It was soon after we took our seats that we realized that they were slightly behind schedule. We didn’t mind as while we waited, we took in all the crazy (yet amazing) fashion statements that people were rockin’. From chrome-like Nike high tops to fascinators, we saw it all. Image

By far my favorite out of them all was Kristie Metcalf’s line, Calotype. Her entire Fall/Winter ’14 collection could and should be sitting in my closet right now. Every piece was so so versatile. I fell in love with the high slit skirt and black trousers (pictured above) especially!

Lesson of the day: fashion is fearless (in case you didn’t already know!)

Hugs,

Kels

PS: I’d love to know if you ladies have ever been to a fashion show and what you’re experience was like! Post in the comments!

OOTD: Acid Wash for days

DSCN0761

??????????

Hey everyone! Hope you are all having as great a day as I am!

I am smack dab in the middle of final papers, exams etc. but I had to make time to share my first ever OOTD post!

The whole ‘grunge’ fashion trend has taken the world by storm and with this, acid wash has made a comeback. Whether you love it or think it should have stayed in the 80s, it’s still around! Probably my favorite thing about this outfit is how easy it was to throw together while still looking cool and casual. Effortless chic, what more could a girl want?

Shirt – Garage
Denim – Garage
Boots – H&M
Bag – Forever21
Necklace – Hunni’s Urban Boutique

Whole outfit cost me $75! Always staying true to my ‘cheap chic’ mantra!

Happy Hump Day!

Hugs,

Kels

PS: I apologize for the serious lack of photos on this post – I am in the process of getting my very first DSLR camera & tripod so bear with me for a few more posts! Bigger and better pictures to come soon!
